Mi vida loca, circa 2012:
Hello there! I’m Amira, an aspiring explorer from the intestines of Vancouver, Canada. I’ve started up this blog to dump all the things close to my heart on the world-wide web. Paradoxical? Nah. But more so to document all the adventures I’ll be pursuing in SE Asia for the next five months. The travel bug (courtesy of my papacito and mama) has now blossomed into my very first independent journey, where I will be doing a combination of teaching, chilling with long-distant relatives, trekking, and above all: learning more about myself and becoming more educated about the world around me.
My story in a nutshell… so after completing one semester at college, I took the next off in order to investigate what other gigs were out there, while simultaneously working at a bakery. Got in touch with a family friend who works at a school in Indonesia who offered me an incredible opportunity to work with him. Started working full-time to raise enough dough (no pun intended) to fund my trip. And now? Peace out, Canada – I’m going home.
Fast-forward to 2017, and I can now say I’ve completed my BA in International Studies; had the opportunity to apply my academia during an extensive volunteer experience; traveled to more nooks and crannies of the world, and made new friends/experiences along the way; and yet, I continue to be one lost pup in what we know as “reality”. Where do I go from here; what to do in terms of careers? Well, nothing’s engrained in my life itinerary, so in the mean time, I’ll be jamming to the chants of Confucius: “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” Vagabond employers, I present to you: my résumé.
